The first SHALLOWSHORTS100 took place at the 100 Club in Oxford Street, Central London, on September 22nd 2004.It was a successful night by all accounts. The film makers showcased their films to a packed house and the audience's senses were treated to wide selection of shorts, each one prompting conversation and interest. One thing was clear, whether they loved or didn't quite love them enough, the crowd always had an opinion. There was a buzz in the atmosphere, as people talked at the bar about what they'd seen. Then, when it came to the films, they were silent, this was real respect. At 10pm we showed the 9 minute French cult film, C'était Un Rendezvous, which was accompanied by a hypnotic live score on piano from Jeremy Case. This 'back to basics' approach to film was one of the highlights of the night and went down a storm. As we continued through the evening with more shorts and more music, attention was still focused on the two large screens, simultaneously showcasing the same films. We were all there for the same reason... to watch films that people had made with passion and commitment... films made to be seen.
